Submit Your Work for the Bologna Children's Book Fair! Deadline Oct 5, 2018

Submit Your Work for the Bologna Children's Book Fair! Deadline Oct 5, 2018

Have you ever submitted your work for the Bologna Children's Book Fair Showcase? Much like the SCBWI drawing prompts and drawing challenges like Inktober, submitting for the Bologna Showcase can be a great excuse to push yourself and make new or experimental work. You can also submit work you've already created, including spreads from published works.

PROCESS IN A NUTSHELL:
Submit your entry form  online.

By Oct 5th, 2018: Send 5 original illustrations (fixed number), unpublished or published after 1st January 2017, in black and white or colour, produced using any technique (in case of mixed or digital techniques, please send the printouts).

If you are an SCBWI Member you get an extended deadline.

If your work is selected it will be in the show. If your work is not selected you may choose to have it returned by mail or you can pick it up in person at the fair.

There is no fee to submit to the exhibition. Artists selected for the exhibit will be given a free pass to the fair.

Everyone who submits artwork is eligible for discounted entry to the fair.

Please consult BOLOGNA CHILDREN'S BOOK FAIR  for the compete rules and process.

Last year a few friends and I scrambled to meet the extended SCBWI deadline. All three of us ended up printing out works from our books that were published or about to publish. This year I am using the entry as an opportunity to make some personal work using new techniques and materials. I am having a lot of fun! Join me?

A few observations from viewing the show last year:
We saw mostly ORIGINAL ARTWORK in the Showcase - few if any print outs.
Much of the art selected felt like it could be for adults and kids and much had an editorial/design feel.

Caveat: Last year there were over 3000 entries to the showcase. Getting selected is a long shot, since professional illustrators from all over the world participate. But it is fun nonetheless!
